One of the species, US

Ocher sand-lines, wet in monsoon rain,

the curves of the shore arced differently

as the waves bounced by the breakwater,

hued in blues, greens, and colors of the sky.

Today the seascape took the shades of

bottle-green, cigarette-butt whites, and caps.

Once, we picked the bivalves and dog whelk;

among the wooden boats, the sea would sulk.

Our disposition makes the environment

paint in blue on the marbled planet.

Wanderlust we are, so are the derbies;

it moves to the deepest of ocean dark,

climbs the highest of snowed mountain air.

Species of all orders in chains of plastic,

Homo sapiens—just articulate, stand upright—

one among species. Remember to live like one.
